World Cup 2006

We had the worst day of World cup 2006 today both England and Brazil were knocked out. For once I was really optimistic on our chances and genuinely thought that the only games we would have had any trouble on was against Brazil.

Today’s game began with a certain excitement that brazil would be out most likely opponents in the Semi’s and that this would be our sweet revenge on Portugal for our defeat in the Euro 2004 championships. However, so drab and boring was the match, that the biggest cheer before the penalties was when a barman in the pub we were in dropped a pint glass on the floor!

Following England’s defeat to Portugal, our eyes turned to Brazil to beat France today and avenge England by defeating Portugal in the Semi’s. however Brazil never really got past second gear and was also a victim to a lesser team. I suppose this is always part of the excitement that no one knows who will perform on the night.

Without these teams in the world cup I imagine that interest in the world cup will now take a back seat to England’s hopes in the Wimbledon tennis………… except for the fact Tim Henman has already been knocked out in the second round. Nothing ever changes…
